Roll H.U. Physics of the Marine Atmosphere
International Geophysics Series, 1965, Volume 7. Academic Press, New York, London, 1965. – 430 pp.
Although a sufficient number of books exist that treat maritime meteorology as an applied science, I doubt that there is any book available that considers the subject as a pure science. In view of the particular emphasis now placed on the development of marine sciences, it is felt that works dealing with the physical approach are needed. It is hoped that this volume will fill this need and will prove useful not only to meteorologists and oceanographers but also to scientists working in the fields of atmospheric physics and geophysics. In this volume, marine atmosphere is regarded as that part of the atmosphere which has the sea surface as its lower boundary and which receives its peculiar characteristics from interaction with the ocean. The main object of this monograph is to discuss the influence exerted by the sea surface on the properties of the atmosphere as well as on atmospheric processes of small and medium scale.
