The primary objective of this modest little book is to whet the interest of the reader enough to go on with his study of the Thai language. We have tried to introduce you to some of the ‘‘mysteries” of Thai as painlessly but as rapidly as we thought practicable.
There seems to be a great deal of misunderstanding among non-Thai-speaking foreigners about the Thai language and its place in the world—or even its place in Thailand! Let us assure you, however, that the Thai language is a rich and useful language and becoming more so every day. The time you spend in learning Thai will not be wasted. Perhaps you will one day even agree with us, to the effect that the more one learns about Thai, the more he realizes what a remarkable language it really is and the more he wants to learn about it.
