Reprinted Classical Anthology of Modern Linguistics.
This Anthology is intended as a representative selection of original articles within the field of general linguistics as this science has been worked out during the 40 years referred to above, i.e. roughly from the rise of structuralism till recent contributions within generative and transformational grammar. As any choice of this kind, mine is of course just as arbitrary as language itself. My aim has been, however, to allow scope for different schools and movements in linguistics, but not to favor my own personal preferences.
