Indogermanische Forschungen. — 2013. — Vol. 118. — 55-92 p.Abstract: The PIE words for ‘earth’ and ‘winter’ are commonly reconstructed as amphikinetic stems *dhéǵh-m-/*dhǵh-m-´ and *ǵhé-m-/*ǵhi-m-´ (cf. Schindler 1967). In the present paper I try to show that a root-noun analysis *dʰǵʰ´m-/ *dʰǵʰém- and *ǵh´m-/*ǵhém- is likewise possible and in the case of the word for ‘earth’ not contradicted by the disyllabic Hittite stem tēkan.
