The author analyzes the etymology of Irano-Bulgarian (Ancient Bulgarian/Proto-Bulgarian) kūr ‘membrum virile, penis’ whose direct descendant is today's widespread Bulgarian word-taboo кур [kur] ‘membrum virile’ and he proves that its Indo-European morphologically direct cognates are Khotan-Saka kūra-, some Central Iranian dialect words for a penis – Nāʼīni kur, Ḵwānsāri (Khunsari) kur, Ancient Greek καυλός and Latin caulis, while morphologically indirect cognates are Middle Persian kēr → New Persian kīr, Balkan-Gypsy kar and Gypsy čičalo – all listed words have the meaning 'membrum virile'. All these Indo-European words are descendants of the Proto-Nostratic word *qhul- 'membrum virile, penis'. Knowing the numerous scientific studies on comparative-historical linguistics, the author believes that his proposed etymologies are the first of their kind in the Indo-European studies.
