Stüber Karin. The historical morphology of N-stems in Celtic
National University of Ireland, Maynooth, 1998. — 238 p. — (Maynooth Studies in Celtic Linguistics).
Whereas the Celtic verbal system has attracted a good deal of attention from comparative Indo-European linguists and has consequently been studied in great detail, the noun seems to have aroused less interest. The inflection is, of course, dealt with quite comprehensively by Pedersen and Thurneysen and more recently, by McCone. On the other hand, as McCone puts it, "the derivational morphology of substantives in Celtic and Old Irish is by contrast accorded no more than perfunctory treatment" in the Handbooks.
The present book seeks to explore a clearly defined part of the derivational morphology of the Celtic noun. This volume, which is based upon a Maynooth PhD dissertation is dedicated to the derivational history of n-stems in the Celtic languages.
