Following up on Johanna Narten's work (
/file/2234933/), Beekes discusses possible evidence for past tense forms with a lengthened grade in the root in the active forms and a full grade in the middle (B.'s term "proterodynamic" corresponds to "acrostatic" or simply "Narten preterites" in other scholars' work). B.'s enthusiasm for this verbal category has later diminished and currently the "Leiden school" denies the existence of "Narten" phenomena in PIE noun or verb.
