Tanimoto S.L. An Interdisciplinary Introduction to Image Processing: Pixels, Numbers, and Programs
The MIT Press. 2012. - 565 p.
This book is intended to be used with software.Aprogram called PixelMath2012 fully supports the book. It provides a special transparent view of digital images as both visual and mathematical objects that reinforces the connection between pixels and numbers. When the user zooms in on an image, the RGB values of pixels are superimposed on the colored-square rendering of the pixels. In addition, PixelMath provides three different interfaces for controlling image transformations and synthesis: (1) the Pixel calculator, which supports part I of this book; (2) the Formula Page, which serves as an advanced extension of the calculator; and (3) the Python window, which supports part II of this book. The software is portable. Most of it is written in Java, and all of it only requires a Java runtime environment. It can run in the browser (as an applet), or as a standalone application. The PixelMath2012.jar file is double-clickable inWindows, and so PixelMath can be started that way. There is a web version that supports educational research through an event-logging facility.
