In these introductory notes, the intent is to summarize Arch's contributions in micrometeorology, and especially in the development of flux-gradient relationships, not in depth but in sufficient detail to give the unfamiliar reader an idea of the thoroughness of his work. Arch's own review of the history of eddy flux measurement makes interesting reading; in it, his own role is characteristically downplayed (Dyer, 1968).
